Submission Guidelines

Submission Guidelines apply for print and online submissions.

Pulch Issue Four (2025)

We are now accepting submissions for Pulch Issue Four. Please download our Submission Guidelines PDF linked at the bottom of the page.

For local art and writing organisations who are interested in advertising their services through Pulch Issue Four, please view our Advertising Rates.

Pulch Online

We are now accepting one-off submissions for Pulch Online. Please see our Submission Guidelines.

Written Guidelines

You can write about anything and everything, from politics to culture, to identity, fictional or non-fictional short stories, poems and experimentative writing, as long as it relates to the above theme. Maybe you’d like to write a dedicative sonnet to the willy wag-tail living in your backyard which keeps you company as you write, or pull out some old work and pen a gruelling self-critical deconstruction. The point is to let your mind go wild!

Poetry - please keep your submission between 10 - 40 lines.

Prose - we accept short stories, personal essays and articles. Please keep your submission between 500 - 2000 words.

The word count can be exceeded by a maximum of 10%.

Format - titles must be written in bold and sized 16pt. Content warnings should be written in italics and sized 12pt. Body text should be written with single-spaced margins and sized 12pt. All submissions must be written in an accessible font such as Arial, Times New Roman or Calibri. Single quotation marks should also be used for dialogue.

Please submit your piece using Microsoft Word or PDF format.

Artwork Guidelines

We’re sending a special call-out to any illustrators or artists who would like to have their work featured in Pulch. You can submit photography, illustration and graphic design. If you know a writer friend, you are welcome to submit a work that accompanies a written piece.

Please submit a high resolution of your work in PDF/JPEG format, 300dpi if possible.

Try not to submit a million artworks in a series, ideally no more than three, and we will pick a few ones that work best for the publication. Pulch will also be presented in full colour, so run as far as you’d like with that knowledge.

Articles & Interviews Guidelines

Pulch Mag will also be accepting proposals for interviews with a young person living, creating or working on something meaningful in WA. Think about who you would like to interview and why? What does their voice add and why should it be published in Pulch?

Please submit a one-page Microsoft Word/PDF document introducing your proposed interviewee and justifying why you would like to interview them.

Your document must include the following:

  • Your proposed interviewee’s details (name, preferred contact details, date of birth, town/city of residence)

  • A short bio of your interviewee (their background, any current/recent projects including links if possible, etc.)

  • Your reasons for wanting to interview them and why people should know about them or the work they create/do.

  • 2 - 3 important questions you might be interested in asking them.

  • We will be accepting submissions from all WA-based young writers or visual artists who fulfil the following criteria:

    • Currently living or based in Western Australia

    • Currently aged between 16 to 26 years old

All submissions must be your own original work, and not published elsewhere.

  • Please email hello@pulchmag.com with your submission attached (.docx or .pdf), full name, location of where you’re based in WA and preferred email address.

For any questions or concerns, please email hello@pulchmag.com or message our Facebook/Instagram page.

Make sure you follow Pulch on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter/X.

  • Due to financial constraints, all work done for Pulch will be entirely volunteer work and unpaid. Of course, we’re aiming to eventually get back to a place where we’re able to pay our contributors again, but as of now, there is no guarantee that you’ll be compensated for your time.

We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

  • You are more than welcome to submit more than one piece or to submit across genres, but no more than three submissions in total.

  • Please note that we do not accept simultaneous submissions, so please don’t submit the same piece(s) to a publication outside of Pulch during our submission period and while you’re waiting for the result of your submission. We hope you understand.
